Visualização de Dados - The Power of Data Visualization

A great discussion on LinkedIn TED group: "The attention span declines. Many have stopped reading books, longer blog posts don't get much traffic while Twitter-traffic has exploded. What is your view on this?"

In that fantastic discussion i stumbled in another great theme: Inforgraphics or The Power of Data Visualization. Check these great Sites:

http://universe.daylife.com/
http://www.wefeelfine.org/

and Jeroen Corthout post:

"I believe in infographics mostly to communicate more with less. Infographics don't need to be all graphics in my opinion. Words can do when they are structured in a visually clear way. Web-based information extraction & selection tools + infographics = enabling concise and coherent communication of loads of information.

Also for marketing purposes it's interesting to consider. I'd attempt to build the message around one word. If that word gets in (which is not simple due to the attention problems which were pointed out in these thread) you can already consider your positioning as succeeded. A few examples: BMW = joy, Volvo = safety, Coke = happiness, ..

O'Reilly Head First - Reading & Learning with Brain-Friendly guides

I discovered with some trepidation The Head First series of O’Reilly. I can only recommend it!

The brain-friendly concept, or the The Head First Formula (must read this):
- they tell stories (using casual language, instead of lecturing)
- they make it visual (images are far more memorable than words alone)
- they use attention-grabbing tactics (learning a new, tough, technical topic doesn't have to be boring)

The Head First Series include:
Java
- EJB
- Servlets & JSP
- Design Patterns
- HTML with CSS & XHTML
Object-Oriented Analysis & Design
- SQL
- C#
- JavaScript
- Software Development
- Statistics
- Ajax
- Physics
